Getting to know Folsom CA is a lot to write about in one article, so in this article we’re going to get to know Folsom’s “front” half, which are the areas close to Hwy 50.
We’ll concentrate on what’s in and around the three exits off of Hwy 50: Folsom Blvd, Prairie City Road and E. Bidwell St.
Folsom CA is about 30 minutes east of Sacramento and is only 15 minutes away west of Redhawk Casino and their Friday night All-You-Can-Eat seafood buffet.
I just had to throw that in there - just had to!

In many ways, the first exit started to put Folsom on the map. Folsom Blvd is where you can find the Folsom Auto Mall if you go South when you get off of Hwy 50.
Most of the activity, however, is if you take a left (or go North) on Folsom Blvd.
The first thing you’ll notice is the Light Rail stop. Then you notice the shops close to the Light Rail and also a lot of bikers and runners on the left side of the street.
Behind the Light Rail is the famous Folsom Premium Outlets that has 71 stores in it. Across the street on Iron Point Rd, are more shops, restaurants, hotels and a movie theater.
The left side of the street is where you’ll find a lot of people biking, walking or running next to Lake Natoma. The trail here is very busy because this is also where you’ll find the Willow Creek Recreation Area.
Getting to know Folsom Ca means knowing Iron Point Road. It runs parallel to Hwy 50 so you can hit all 3 exits on it.
If you were to go east on Iron Point Road you’ll hit the next exit, Prairie City Road.
But from Hwy 50, when you take this exit and turn left, you’ll immediately notice the highly rated and State Champs in Football, Folsom High School.
Across the street from it and to your left, you’ll notice the large Intel Campus, the largest employer in Folsom.
Further down, you’ll see a couple of small strip malls and apartment buildings towards the street and lots of homes behind them.
The homes range anywhere from the low $500s to mid-to-high $700s.
There is also an active senior community close to the corner of Iron Point Road and Prairie City Road.
Each exit has landmarks that put Folsom Ca on the map and E Bidwell Street has the newest landmark - Palladio, an exciting outdoor mall that houses some of the coolest and trendiest shops.
Knowing the corner of Iron Point Road and E Bidwell Street is a must in getting to know Folsom CA.
This corner boasts not only the Palladio, but Costco, Lifetime Fitness, Sam’s Club, Green Acres, a couple of hotels, Whole Foods, new apartment buildings, lots of shops and Kaiser Permanente not too far away on Iron Point Road.
There are many businesses and apartments on Iron Point Road.
From this corner you’ll also have a great view of the many beautiful, large homes in the Folsom Hills. The Broadstone neighborhood is where this corner is located and the housing prices here, depending on the size, range from the mid $500s to a million.
Further east on Iron Point Road, past Costco, is where you’ll run into the Empire Ranch neighborhood and easy access to more homes in the hills. This is a newer development and is priced accordingly.
South of the exit is where you’ll find Folsom Ranch where they are developing more than 3200 new homes.
The front half of Folsom, which consists of the three exits from Hwy 50 has a lot to offer. Getting to know Folsom Ca won’t be the same without it.
